Have any questions?
I pay good money for an insurance policy. Why shouldn’t they handle my claim?
Insurance companies provide immediate support and financial assistance after you file a claim for serious damage or loss. However, once the initial crisis is resolved, the insurance company may attempt to minimise the amount they pay out. In such cases, a loss assessor can work on your behalf to research, calculate, and organise all relevant information to maximise your entitlements within your policy.
My insurer sent down a loss adjuster. How is that different than a Loss Assessor.
In essence, loss assessors and loss adjusters perform similar tasks as professionals managing insurance claims. However, there is one significant difference. A loss assessor is employed by and works for you, aiming to secure the best possible settlement figure on your behalf. On the other hand, a loss adjuster is employed by and works for the insurer, seeking to minimise the settlement figure.
Will my insurance company be opposed to me hiring a Loss Assessor?
Loss assessors can only assist you in claiming what is legally entitled to you as detailed in your insurance policy.
You have the right to equal representation in your claim. Your insurance company will likely hire a loss adjuster to negotiate on their behalf, so it is only fair that you are allowed a loss assessor to work out the best possible arrangements for you.
My insurance company says that I am underinsured. How can a Loss Assessor help?
If you are underinsured, it means that you are not insured against the full value of possible loss or damage. The question of ‘under-insurance’ is not clear-cut. It is difficult to assess accurately whether a property or business is underinsured and by how much because there is no right or wrong figure when calculating the value of assets. This can seriously affect your claim.
Loss Adjusters (who work for your insurance company) use various tactics to prove that a claimant is under-insured, hoping to decrease the settlement figure drastically. In contrast, the Loss Assessors will provide evidence of adequate insurance cover.
If a claimant is worried about underinsurance, it is essential that he uses a Loss Assessor at the earliest convenience.
At what point should I involve a Loss Assessor?
It is in your best interest that the Loss Assessor is contacted at the very beginning. This will ensure that the Loss Adjusters will not mislead you into saying or doing something that can weaken or even invalidate your claim.
The loss adjusters act friendly and helpful in order to gain your trust, but it is worth remembering that they are seeking to satisfy their employers (the insurance company) by saving them as much money as possible. By hiring a loss assessor at the start of your claim, you avoid being taken advantage of just because you lack the knowledge of the tricks of their trade.
It is also possible to hire a Loss Assessor further along the road. Often a claimant starts out on his own but then notices that the insurance company is either delaying the claim or trying to shirk its responsibilities. The Loss assessors can still be appointed, but executing the claim to everyone’s satisfaction will be a little tougher than necessary.
In the event that a loss Assessor is only hired after a claim has been rejected by the insurance company, overturning the verdict is a complicated affair, but competent Loss Assessors can accomplish a reversal for a raised commission.
I do not have insurance at all. Can you help me nevertheless?
The short answer is: No!
However, if it can be proven that there was a third party who was responsible for the damage and that they were negligent in some way, we can pursue a claim on your behalf.
Will you charge me for your work if my claim is rejected/not paid?
No. rest assured: If it's yours by rights – it will happen through knights.
