A flood in your home?

Residential Flooding Claims

Water damage can be extensive and often far beyond what is immediately apparent.

If your home is insured, you should receive adequate compensation to reinstate your home to the way it was before the flooding, according to the level of coverage stated in your insurance premium.

Knights are experts in assessing the true extent of the damage caused by water. With us, you can feel confident that your claim will be resolved as fast as possible, with minimum stress and the highest settlement we can get you.

How we can help

Damage review

Your insurer will employ a loss adjuster to look after their interests and limit their liabilities; these adjusters won’t consider the subtler, long term damage flooding can cause. Our loss assessors know how to prove the true value of losses incurred and ensure you get what you're entitled to.

Protection against further damage

If your property is at risk of further damage after the flood (like mould) or requires immediate remedial action, we will organise emergency works through our network of contractors, and ensure that the works are covered by your insurance.

Temporary accommodation

Extensive water damage rendered your home uninhabitable? We will arrange accommodation for as long as necessary and advise you on how to ensure that you're fully compensated for this. We will offer full support throughout and help you with vital record keeping.

Loss Assessment

Our experienced loss assessors will conduct a comprehensive damage survey, ensuring no details are missed and that the full extent of the water damage is recorded. We will liaise with the insurers and their loss adjusters and challenge any reports which we feel do not fully represent the loss you incurred.

Quality repairs

We will network with professional plumbers, contractors etc to ensure that all repairs are safe and up to standard so you don’t experience flooding again. We also help you avoid potential pitfalls by helping you steer clear of any contractors/suppliers who may not be acting in your best interests.

Claims handling & negotiations

We will liaise with all third parties and surveyors and look after your interests. We will also negotiate with the insurers, submit the necessary paperwork and do whatever it takes to help you get back on your feet (on dry land!) in no time.

Insurance advice and coordination

We will scrutinise your policy to determine the full amount of compensation you're entitled to. We will then build a robust case and handle all proceedings on your behalf. Our claims handlers will assist with every step along the way, including guidance, advice and support.

Legal advice

Should the need arise, we will arrange for top legal representation and deal with all aspects of the case on your behalf. We will not rest until avenues are explored and you receive the full compensation you’re entitled to.

FAQs about residential flood damage

Dealing with an insurance claim after a flood can be very confusing.

At knights, we welcome your questions and strive to give easy, clear answers.

Check out the FAQs, and if you don’t find what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What do I need to do before calling my insurance company for a burst pipe?

Start by turning off the stopcock, which is the tap containing the main water supply for the entire house, usually under the sink. When you live in an apartment building and you are not in control of the mains, contact your landlord or apartment manager right away.

It is also a good idea to shut off all nearby electricity in order to prevent further damage.

Insurers will look for ways to blame you for the damage, so you should do everything you can to minimize the negative effects of your loss.

To maximize your chances of a successful claim, you should have a loss assessor by your side. When a loss assessor calls the insurer on your behalf, the insurer will send their loss adjuster much faster and the process of claiming will be so much easier.

A loss assessor will also make sure that the loss adjustor’s analysis of the damage to your home is accurate.

You should also hold onto any items that have been damaged by the flood. If your loss adjuster doesn’t see it, your insurance company won’t pay for it.

How should I make a claim from my insurance for water damage?

If you have insurance, contact your insurer to let them know you have suffered flood damage to your home and ask how to proceed.

Unless your claim is really small, they will send you a loss adjuster to assess the damage to your home.

It is advisable to contact a loss assessor before making this call to ensure that the loss adjuster's analysis is accurate.

As loss assessors, Knights understands how valuable it is to meet you before a loss adjuster visits your home, so even if we can assist you without an initial meeting, the sooner you call, the better.

How can a loss assessor help me with my water damage claim?

As loss assessors, we will first contact a company (acceptable to your insurance company) that can help to restore the water damage to your home.

If necessary, we will also call an electrical contractor to help with the electrical damage caused by the flooding.

In the event that your home is so badly damaged that you cannot live there anymore, we can assist you in finding temporary accommodations until your home can be repaired.

We will also negotiate with your insurers, making sure that they have an accurate assessment of the damage and give you the highest possible settlement in the shortest amount of time.

Will my insurance company pay for everything that got damaged from the flood in my home?

Loss assessors will do everything they can to ensure that you are compensated for each item damaged unless you are underinsured.

While the loss adjusters will try to reduce the amount of money you get because they represent your insurance company, it is our job as loss assessors to fight that.

In rare cases, we may not be able to get you the full compensation for water-damaged clothing.

We will ensure that you receive compensation for electronics, even if the loss adjuster says it will work when it dries. It won’t! In addition, we will negotiate compensation for electronics damaged by the flood despite not being touched by water- an increase in humidity may have caused them to malfunction.

Let’s make life easier for you.

Settling your claim through Knights is easier, faster and more lucrative than claiming on your own.

You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
