Theft in your home?

Residential Theft Claims

Having your home invaded creates an awful sense of vulnerability.

In many cases, theft significantly impacts the emotional well-being of those living in the household. Dealing with the complexities of an insurance claim only piles more stress onto an already fraught situation.

Here at Knights, we’re committed to restoring your peace of mind as soon as possible. From start to finish, we will take care of every aspect of the claim and negotiate on your behalf.
We will do our utmost to ensure that you receive the full amount you deserve to recover your losses.

How we can help

Legal advice

Should the need arise, we will arrange for top legal representation and deal with all aspects of the case on your behalf. We will not rest until avenues are explored and you receive the full compensation you’re entitled to after your traumatic experience.

Insurance advice and coordination

We will scrutinise your policy to determine the full amount of compensation you're entitled to. We will then build a robust case and handle all proceedings on your behalf. Our claims handlers will assist with every step along the way, including guidance, advice and support.

Protection against further damage

If your property was left vulnerable to further theft (broken locks or windows, for example), we will organise emergency repairs through our network of contractors, and ensure that the works are covered by your insurance.

Claims handling & negotiations

We will liaise with all third parties and surveyors and look after your interests. We will also negotiate with the insurers, submit the necessary paperwork and do whatever it takes to help you recover your losses in no time.

Loss assessment

Our experienced loss assessors will conduct a comprehensive survey, missing nothing and ensuring each of your losses and damages are recorded. We will liaise with the insurers and their loss adjusters and challenge any reports which we feel do not fully represent the loss you incurred.

FAQs about residential theft

Dealing with an insurance claim after theft can be very confusing.

At knights, we welcome your questions and strive to give easy, clear answers.

What do I need to do before calling my insurance company for theft?

Immediately call the police after noticing the theft. It should be within a few hours. It is possible that your insurance company will void your claim if they discover that you waited before contacting the police.

You should then call your insurance company and record the name of the person who speaks with you. You should then contact a loss assessor to assist you in the gruelling claims process.

The loss assessor will contact the loss adjuster assigned to your case directly, which will ensure that you receive assistance much sooner. It is ideal to meet with your loss assessor before your loss adjuster comes to meet you.

How can a loss assessor help me with my theft claim?

Firstly, a loss assessor will help you to start the claims process quicker by getting the loss adjuster to come faster. Then as well as writing a clear and properly formatted list of the items that were stolen, an assessor will also help you determine their value.

As loss assessors, we at Knights will negotiate the entire claim with your insurers. We will make sure that they give you the highest possible settlement in the shortest amount of time.

Will my insurance company pay for everything that was stolen?

Unless a loss assessor is assisting you, it is highly unlikely.

Loss assessors will do everything they can to ensure that you are compensated for each item that was stolen unless you are under-insured.

While the loss adjusters will try to reduce the amount of money you get because they represent your insurance company, it is our job as loss assessors to fight that.

With burglary, the loss adjuster will not pay you according to your opinion of the value of the stolen item just because they cannot see it.

They will try to push the numbers down as far as they can. However, we at Knights have experience as loss assessors to help you get the correct amount for your loss.
